2 Pallas 16 Aug 2006
      #1101547 - 08/18/06 03:12 PM Attachment (25 downloads)

Much like in my quest to image Ceres, I went after a few other asteroids / planets / whatevers ("objects orbiting the sun between Mars and Jupiter"). This is the result..

Animation of 2 images, taken approximately 40 minutes apart from one another to show movement. Each image is a 4 x 30 sec stack at ISO1600 at prime focus (2000mm) in my 8" LX200 scope using Canon Rebel XT/350D camera. Darks, flats subtracted, stacked (min/max rejection) and RGB levels in Iris. Levels adjustments and GIF animation in Photoshop CS.

The first two asteroids / bodies / objects, Ceres and Pallas, were successes. My other attempts (10 Hygiea, 6 Hebe and 15 Eunomia) were failures due to go-to aligment pointing errors. I was lazy and did not synch on nearby stars to the R/A coordinates I punched in for those asteroids, thus the pointing errors and no find.

Andrew,

Be careful or we'll have to start calling you Andrew "Minor Planet" Welsh.

Seriously, another great shot!
