decent laptop for webcam work
      #1102049 - 08/18/06 09:26 PM

Hi-

Are there any no-frills laptops out there that would be suitable for webcam work? I'm just interested in one that would be used to run the camera. So I don't need one with all the bells and whistles. I might even want to partition the disc to add the Linux operating system in addition to Windows. The laptop I use from work is ancient, and doesn't have USB 2.0 ports on it.

Ultimately, I'd be looking at something along the lines of the SKYnyx camera. Perhaps even an Atik monochrome camera.

Thanks,

Gary

Gary,

I use a Dell Latitude D610. One thing I did to hop up its performance for video capture was to go with a 7500rpm harddrive. I been very happy to date with this.

my two cents,

If you're looking to use a Skynyx, it'll need to be able to support fairly large data transfers, so don't scrimp on memory or CPU or harddisk speed.

You will also want a firewire port, should you decide to get a DMK instead.
