Help
      #1102314 - 08/19/06 01:00 AM

Hello Guys, Just wondering if anyone knows where I can get the 4.0 fimware for lx200gps. I downloaded the new 4.1 and the scope will not track correctly and the goto is now way off. Did not have this problem with the old fimware.

I found this post in another thread, maybe it will help you with your problem:

==========================================================================
Firmware version 4.1i has an incorrect setting.
The value for UTC-GPS OFFSET is set at +13 it should be +0.
I had poor goto pointing until I set it to +0.
Here is the steps I did to correct the problem.
Set UTC-GPS OFFSET to +0 using the Autostar, I think it was under Setup but it may be under Utilities.
Power cycle and do a 2 star.
Do a calibrate sensors, this will then do a Automatic alignment.
Power down the scope and back up.
Do another 2 star this time the 1st alignment star was with 1/10 degree of the center of the finder. Goto now works great.

Hi, Coop,
Just after I had posted my reply I sow J.D's one.
He had touched a good point, anyway at least you know now where to find the previous versions of ASII.
Cheers, Stefano

Thanks JD. I did notice that the setting on the UTC-GPS was set at 13. I did not know what the correct was suppose to be. I assumed it would be 0 but not sure. I will give your fix a try. I really apperciate the info. its good to know we have help when we need it. Thanks again and I will let you know how it comes out.

Coop

I had the same problem myself...

Unless I am mistaken (and i often am..) the UTC-GPS offset is only for setting the clock to your local time. The goto works by UTC only (not local time) and will run without local time even set (or set to Mars time).. its like the daylight savings option - doesn't matter unless you don't want to miss the news on TV and you dont have a wristwatch (although an LX200 would be a pretty cool wristwatch - heavy though ).

The goto problem lies elsewhere i suspect..

The 13 second UTC-GPS offset (actually 14) is for the leap seconds added to account for the difference between the atomic clocks and the Earth's rotational time. It has nothing to do with your local time. If your local time uses daylight savings time and it is not set correctly your GOTOs will be off by an hour (15 degs). While the 13 second UTC-GPS should be set to 0 with scopes that use Sony GPS chips, a 13 second time error should not have big affect on your GOTOs.
