Jerry, I certainly have one that has the issue. I was going to fight the battle to get it replaced/repaired myself so as not to bother you with the issue. If, however, you think going through you is going to yield a better result overall for everyone then I certainly will. Your call on that.
No problem at all Chris. You helped a lot with this as it unfolded and thanks for that. If you would PM me your EMail address, full name and dealer you purchased it from I'll get Scott to include yours on the list I just sent. It would prabably help everybody and Meade with a group orientation.

UPS just pulled up with the 10" LX200R. Wonder if I can get off work early. I'll setup the test and know in a couple hours.
Fingers crossed here for sure.

Jerry,
I am still holding on to my scope waiting for a clear night to see if I have the issue discussed. Then it goes back to Meade for the drive problem and they can fix the collimation if that is an issue too (or swap it). Tropical storm residue landing here tonight so who knows when I will get a clear sky.
I am sure I can speak for everyone when I say good luck with this latest scope and I hope the test results are perfect.

New scope passed the test. It also has a handle on the rear of the OTA just like the 12 inch version (the first ones had no handle).
I mounted it on the LXD 650 test mount, setup the artificial star and test target. Then ran the same test as with other LX200R models.
1. Mirror shift. Virually invisible. Prabably best I've ever seen. Certainly the best I can recall.
2. Interior of OTA. Spotless
3. Interior of Baffle Tube. Spotless
4. Focuser function. Excellent
5. Resolution. Excellent
6. (The biggy) Hold collimation from one side of focus to the other. Yes.
I de-collimated the scope and then moved through focus to the other side. The offset remained on the proper side. Even down to very fine collimation it was so close no one would notice a difference. I saw just the faintest offset but nothing most people would ever visualize. This is with both the stardard moving mirror focus and William Optics 2 speed focuser.
Anybody receiving one of these OTAs would be happy with it. I will run another side by side with the C-11 on the stars here soon. The Moon and some work I'm doing with the CGE-1400 is the reason for delay.
So looks like we are out of the woods. Thank you Scott (Meade), Dr. Clay (Ark. Skies), and Craig (OPT). Great job all the way around.

Thanks folks. Hopefully everybody will get a perfect LX200R scope soon. Then the advertising promise can be fulfilled......"a hubby in your own back yard".... (with his scope).
Thanks Joad. Very kind of CN. I'm right proud of it.
On another subject, is that really your skyclock? It looks more like a cut-n-paste from a photoshop picture. It's been solid deep blue for a month now.

There are not that many OTAs affected (a good thing). There were only 3 owners with the problem that PM'd me.
Jerry and Meade, I'm a lost sale for Meade, so Meade should know. I had an early 10 inch R (serial 128862). It had dust inside, spots on the mirror and a non-concentric baffle. I returned it for cleaning, with a note to verify collimation, and it came back a little worse with no note that they looked at collimation. So I returned it for credit and bought a good old reliable C-11.

Yup, that's the CSC for Mt. Pinos. And it has been perfect to almost perfect for weeks now. That is the way conditions really are around here, which is certainly one of the reasons why I am able to fend off both aperture and APO fever (though I experience both "ailments"). Dark transparent skies are best piece of "equipment" we can have. I only got into star gazing after buying a house up here. It's pretty well hopeless anywhere in the Los Angeles area where I have my primary residence, even though that is a "rural" one in the Santa Monica mountains.

Looks like quite a number of CN members have LX200R. Its ota is the same as RCX400, right? Are you all going to mount them on equatorial mounts?

No, Kim. The OTA is the same as the LX200's. The RCX is a totaly different animal. The LX200R shares similar opticts to the RCX. The are a different FL though.

I see. If I have the bucks, it's always recommended to get the RCX, isn't it?
