I was contacted today too!
Don't forget to post when your item is picked up; let's see if that happens at the same time too!

Well its now two weeks since I contacted Scott asking what they could do to help with the shipping. I also sent a follow up last Monday but got no response. Not the most sterling customer service so far.
I tried to telephone him earlier but got his mailbox with a message reporting it was full so no message could be left

Rather worringly I just managed to get through to Scott's answer phone and his message reports he is currently out of the office and will be back in on the 15th of September!!!

Steddyman, Scott has to be the single busiest person on the West Coast. It's not the right thing to have to do but I would continue to call him until you get an answer. I routinely wait a week or two for an EMail reply. He is in charge of the Customer Support end of things and the RCX, LX200R and other releases have him supporting a lot.

Oh yes,
I do plan to run another test very soon. I have located another LX200R 10" that has the collimation manifestation. My new one does not. I am setting up the CGE to mount both side by side. I'll then carefully collimate both scopes (the one with the collimation offset best I can) then shoot some photos for you folks to look over. We can see if under a certain set of circumstances, this manifestation does make a noticable difference at focus. If it is very close and only noticable under precise test conditions then they may be "good enough" to forgo a return. I honestly don't know what to expect though so it's new ground here.
Sound interesting?

Mine's on the way to Irvine. Your test results will be interesting to see Jerry. But regardless I'll feel better knowing that the optics are collimateable on both sides of focus. My previous LX200 was and provided excellent views and the imaging quality I'm looking for.

Good work Jerry. I am looking forward again to the results of one of your tests.
Steddyman, I agree with Jerry about Scott. He is likely in an insane asylum as we speak trying to recover from the LX200R debacle (and much more).
I know how frustrating it can be and do feel your pain; I haven't had a fully operational scope since May 10th 2006!
Keep plugging away and you will get a result. You could try Paul Mc Daniel in Scott's absence.

I have been waiting two weeks to a reply to my email now, whereas before he was replying after 24 hours.
My concern is that something has happened to him since his answerphone message states he is on holiday and will be back on the 15th of September (nearly two weeks ago).
That means he was away when I sent the first message, and maybe hasn't returned.

Could very well be he is wrapped up on something or on vacation. I heard from him last Monday asking if everything was ok with the new scope. He said they were working through the list of other users and seemed fine.

Most definitely. I'll be anxious to see the results, even though I am just along for the ride.

I finally managed to get hold of Scott today at Meade.
He is a very nice chap and has been working behind the scenes on my behalf, but unfortunately it has come to nought.
Meade still want me to pay shipping both ways which will cost me £230 out and £270 in. I need to work out what I can do now

*Gosh, dang dibbity dag nabbit* Steddyman, that's a shame. You could fly it out yourself for that.
Have you looked at consolidating; getting a bit of space on a shipment bound for CA? I used to use it for sea frieght and there is likely an air freight equivalent. Might be worth a look and may be cheaper.

Thanks Morris
Yes, I have looked at those other options, but they aren't too attractive.
For freight you normally need to be shipping 100 kilos or more and the scope is only 43 kilos. I could get it out there for about £180 in a container which would take 6 weeks. Also the shipper isn't comfortable with dealing with fragile equipment.
For that sort of difference I may as well use UPS.
Thanks

Has anyone who sent their 10" back heard anything from Meade, yet?

No but I did lodge an online request for Paul to investigate it. According to the website HE is the man charged with just that job.
I expect a response within 72 hours.
I will let you know.
