Puter question, dropping frames, etc
      #1108332 - 08/22/06 03:52 PM

Hi Folks,

I'm using a Dell Latitude laptop, running Windows 2000 Pro to image with, using a Toucam 840.

Recently, I left my laptop on all night and when I got up the next morning, there on my screen was the BSOD saying something about physical memory dump. I shut my laptop down and then re-started it. It is running much slower now and when I image with it, it drops 40-50% of the frames.

I know with the limited amount of info I've given, you probably cannot tell me what happened or how to fix the problem, but does anyone have any hints on where to look or a guess on what could have occured?

I have de-fragged and did a disc clean-up. Other than that I've done nothing.

Thanks for any help or ideas.

A question:

Was it running on battery before the BSOD appeared?

First I would download and run Ccleaner.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Then Download and run TuneUp Utilities 2006 free trial.

Run a Reg clean and a Reg defrag

Thanks for the input.

Rusty> It was not running on the battery, but it was online (dial-up). I scaned it for viruses and spyware. It was virus free and had a few of the usuual tracking cookies on it, but other than that it was clean.

Starwars> I'll download the programs and give them a shot.

Thanks guys!

Dial-up normally will shut down if unused for a certain period (your call).

I recommend System Mechanic 6 as one of the most reliable and robust multi-faceted utilities out there. I've used it since v 1.5, and each successive version adds features and reliability.

Nevertheless, Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy, have their places as well.

Hey Guys,

I installed your suggestions and doesn't seem to be helping.
I tried imaging yesterday and it's still dropping 50% of the frames. I did notice one thing though, I did not hear the fan on the laptop kick on once.
You think the laptop is overheating and causing these problems?

Thanks!

Try booting up the PC with the Win 2000 installation CD and choose the repair option on C drive...

Thanks for all your help Starwars!

I may have something that is causing or at least is part of the problem.
I started my laptop this am, when an error came up saying that SynTPEnh.exe had encountered an error and will be shut down. I clicked on ok, then the BSD appeared and started another memory dump. I restarted the laptop, which took forever to load. Then another BSOD appeared with a stop : unknown hard error c0000218. I restarted again, then another memory dump.
Then another BSOD stop:0x0000001e kmode_exception_not_handled
80548e93 base at 80400000, datestamp 42258bd8-ntoskrnl.exe
also said the check disc space and if driver is indentified, disable driver or update driver.
I did a quich Google search on the SynTPEnh.exe and it seems some are having problems with this touchpad program using 2000 and XP.

Thanks for any help.
