New LX-200R motor failure
      #1169101 - 09/27/06 08:31 PM

I have had a NON-GPS LX-200 for many years with no problems (EVER) and recently upgraded to the LX-200 GPS R (8"). First night out it couldn't find North and then I keep getting an RA Motor failure. My dealer is telling me that its a software update issue. Has anyone dealt with this? Does the scope have to go back to Meade? Any info would be helpful.

Also, I started out using batteries and then thought it could be a voltage issue so I switched to the AC adaptor with powerpack. No difference.

Todd

Probably a loose wire or a sensor issue. Someone else has probably experienced this and could tell you exactly what to look for inside the RA drive if you wanted to tinker before sending back to the dealer. If it is brand new you could probably exchange it too and the dealer should be able to work out the issue with meade, while you have a brand new scope.

This is what I was thinking. With all the other issues discussed with Meade I can't believe I am the only one who opens the box to multiple problems. I might actually jump ship to the Celestron CPC if the dealer can not resolve the issue. For the same price I could get a much larger mirror and the scope will probably work.
