Hello everyone,
I just received my LX-90 yesterday and was eager to set it up. One problem I am having is when I extend the legs outward fully from their stowed configuration the base of the tripod was very slanted. I didn’t notice this and when I placed the telescope on top and attempted to screw it down the threads on the inside of the telescope base got slightly stripped.. It isn't so bad that it is unusable yet. Also, since the tripod isnt perfectly straight, the accesory tray which "catches" the legs only catches one or two of the legs before the bolt is tight.
Does anyone else have this problem? Do you just extend the tripod legs or do you level the tripod before attaching the scope so that the bolt engages straight and the accessory holder on the bolt touches all three legs simultaneously?

The Meade tripod is very stable and a good one but I've found its major fault is getting the scope (8" LX90 LNT)centered so the bolt goes up into the base without figeting and tightened easily. I had a heck of a time with that until I got the plate from Peterson Engineering (I think its called the Mounting Assistant) that essentially makes the whole process foolproof and quick. I highly recommend it. When I set my scope up, I like the height with no extension to the legs. I check it for level and extend any of the legs needed to get it close, then I mount the scope. Hope this helps. Peter

Another great addition to add (including the Mounting Assistant) is making a "Springy-Thingy" (I love that name!). This will save the bottom of your scope from the bolt crushing through the thin metal and destroying the innards...

Thanks for posting that info. Everytime my wife and I set up my LX90 10" I can't for the life of me understand why they couldn't put bumped up notches on the mount base and recessed notches under the fork base. Then, you'd just need to set the scope into the notches and bingo, no aligning problems. Pretty silly to think such "smart" engineers didn't think to make the mounting easier.

Another item that comes with the mounting assistant is a washer and wingnut which you use to center the bolt and tighten the tripod into position once you have it in place. This is a very important step each time you set up. After tightening the bolt, you remove the washer/wingnut and mount your scope just as you would normally. The bolt should thread straight into the telescope base.
