I am thinking of getting the Kunming [Oberwerk ]11x70 bino. My main concern is the F.O.V. which is 4.5 degrees and the AFOV at 49.5 - do people find this reasonably narrow ? I do not like the 'tunnel vision effect'. I have a Meade 9x63 which I am now finding increasingly difficult to use for my 51 year old eyes - I get 'white outs and jelly beaning' effects. The Oberwerk is coming from overseas so cannnot view first hand. [Live in New Zealand]. I live in a semi-suburban area so it never gets really dark. The 11x70's exit upils are 6.3mm which is a 'minor' reduction from the Meades 7 mm exit pupil. Any comments about the Oberwerk 11x70s would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you going to use a mount? If so why don't you go for the 15X70 instead...64.5 deg APFOV will be MUCH nicer than 49.5 deg. 4.67 mm exit pupil is plenty for astronomy. Sky background will be darker for better contrast.
"White outs and jelly beaning" are usually caused by improper eye relief...too long or too short.

Only you can answer that; do you find Plossls un-enjoyably narrow? The 11x70 has very long eye relief, so you still might get blackouts, at least in daytime.
I agree with Erik; while 11x70 is a nice configuration, it's not very hand-holdable, so if you have to use a mount, 15x70 will probably be more enjoyable and for sure it will see deeper.

Thx. for the replies, cannot get the 15x70's at present as the cost is prohibive [I'am getting the 11x at approx. half price the of the 15x from a dealer in Sydney, Australia who I have had + + dealings with so it is at a 'discount' price]. Will hand hold / tripod mount 50 /50 ? but the 'limited' Afov would mean a mount would be more sensible.

Charen,
Prices are the same for the 11X or the 15X from two different dealers in the USA:

http://bigbinoculars.com/1570.htm
As patter mentioned, 23mm extra long ER of the 11X model can be even trickier for you to get the ER just right to avoid black outs. And you said:
"I live in a semi-suburban area so it never gets really dark...."
Same as my backyard, usually no better than Mag 5. I have experimented with binos with exit pupils of 2.5, 3.1, 4, 4.17, 5, & 7.1 mm for astronomy. I found that exit pupil of ~4mm works best for ME. Binos with 5mmm of bigger exit pupil show a bright, washed-out sky background but no more stars. I found that for most DSOs slightly higher magnification brings out more detail. I usually prefer higer X if I don't have to give up much FOV.
IIRC, EdZ reported that in comparing a Fuji 10X70 vs. 16X70 he could not take advantage of the extra large exit pupil of a Fuji 10X70 unless he was under VERY dark skies.(Mag 6+?) With a 11X70 you may be getting just 11X56 or 11X60 performance with the extra bulk. A 11X56 will be easier to handhold.
I don't recommend selecting a model you feel is less than optimum because you can get it at a low price. There are plenty of Oberwerk look-alikes out there selling for 1/2 the price. Most of us active on this forum want someting better. A $49 70mm binocular is not a bargain if you wish you had bought something else every time you pick it up. I know, I have a few "bargain optics" in the house I haven't used for years....
