Ran across some freeware that seems to do a few things Registax does not. Certainly not Photoshop, but the price is right. Image J is found at: http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/download.html

Amazing software indeed! I opened the example image of m51, and applied a bandpass filter with the default parameters, the result is simply amazing! Oh, btw, did I mention it is amazing software already?

Check out the plugins dozens of them lots of RGB stuff, histograms etc. Your taxes paid for it so its is free!!!
