Thanks Jim.....Meade rep never mentioned it either. I just remember that PST's were never shipped through the air because of some reason I don't recall. Perhaps I'm totally wrong Anyways mine goes back tomorrow USPS.

Done, Emiel! That you had both of those PSTs had escaped me! I was so fascinated by the comparison images that I didn't notice the serial # info!
I edited the latest list back on page 12!

Some news (good news).
I managed to contact Sven Königsfeld of MEADE Europe. I have to ship my PST as soon as possible to get it fixed.
Stay tuned for more news.

The UPS guy just delivered my repaired PST. It has gone from Rusty Red to Beautiful Blue! I sent it in on 12/04/07, they said it would take about 4 weeks, and it arrived today, 01/16/08.
The funny part is that I was afraid that if I sent in the original foam packing insert, I'd never get it back. So I wrapped it up in yards and yards of bubble wrap and shipped it in a big box. It was returned to me in the factory foam packaging, in an original orange PST box. To top it off, they even included another K20 eyepiece.
Thank you Meade!
I had no idea what to do with the original K20, let alone two of them. No - they're not going into my Denk binoviewer!
This weekend I'll test the performance of my newly repaired PST and report here.

I just took my newly repaired PST #96264 out for it's first observing session since "going blue".
Meade did a beautiful job! The sun appears a deeper orange/red than before, providing improved contrast and prominence detail. Although the sun was very quiet when I observed, I can report that the scope is now superior to the original configuration.
I'm very happy that I had this done, and highly recommend the procedure. Meade may have its problems right now, but they really delivered on the PST fix.
Thanks Meade!

Hi,
My friend George and I noticed a "rust color" ring around the outside edge of the objective lens. Is this the "rust" problem? The center of the lens looks good. S/N 100625
Thanks for any feedback.

I had my PST out a couple of days ago (even when the Sun is quiet I just love looking at thing giant glowing tennis ball) and my objective still looks fine. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

My PST is back from MEADE Germany!

I sent it on December 20th, 2007. MEADE Germany was closed for holydays from December 23th to January 6th.
Tomorrow the PST arrived at home. It was received by my parents, and I was back from job late after sunset, so no way to test it.
The objective now looks clear with a pale blue tint, and it seems they changed also the eyepiece holder.
Hope to try it soon!

Well for what it was worth, my old PST CaK was s/n 50102 and was chronically astigmatic, (though not as bad as Ben/Hiram or John's). I now have a new CaK which is flawless (so far, but that glue on the prism I suspect could slip at any time!)
The PST H-A has been stripped down, and pretty much totally replaced in terms of objective, Blocking filters etc, first few looks seem to indicate that the bandpass is slightly worse than the old one (which was 0.7A or lower from a direct A/B against an SM40), but the image is far better/clearer and not astigmatic, though I still have to ramp up the power on it to see what happens.

It seems that several pieces of my PST have been replaced. It was used, in good condition but it was obvious it was not brand new. Not scratches or injuries, it only had the appeal of a "used" instrument.
Now it seems that the only used part is the golden tube. Even the prism box feels like it is a new unit. Nice work, indeed.
This morning, of course, it was cloudy, so I did not have a chance to test the optic.

My CaK PST #50201 can be added to the list. I sent it in just before the holidays not sure if it needed repair. It came back today and I had a chance to try it out and it is better. The repair statement they sent me reads, "re-alignment pentaprism".

What, the pentaprisms which don't need re-alignment you mean..?
The non existent astigmatism you mean?
Can you ensure that Hiram, Ben Ritchie and John see this post.. it's very important..

A pink copy titled RGA SERVICE TRAVELER has a blank filled in as (not my words) "high power mag is blurry possible stigmatic" and then has another blank that was filled in as "Re-alignment pentaprizm clean optics + filters".
It seemed to work fine today, but I will mount it side by side with my other PST CaK tomorrow for a better comparison. For the record, I don't remember my PST CaK being at all dirty. The lens cap wasn't on when it arrived and it had about 20 to 30 small partlices on the lens.
