#96512. Finally repaired by Meade, new blue style objective. Got no where trying to deal with Meade directly. Instead had the local astro shop (S&S Optika, Englewood Colorado) to handle this (shipped to/from Meade) They also checked it out thoroughly after repair to make sure. Thanks much to them! Since I didn't miss it that much, now will sell it.

Sounds to me like you should post under "well deserved thanks" in equipment. And I think there is a chap also in equipment asking a question about solar filters. Sounds like he may be in the market for a PST. Keith

You can add 95296 to that list, astigmatic prism, on a second replacement new unit, with a clear front cell.

It looks like that anyone sending their unit back should make sure that they ask Meade to look at the alignment of the prism and repair that also if needed.

It's not just a repair, its locking it back in to place with proper glue, that doesn't move.. mine came back, and was pretty good, then after a while of using it, it almost seemed like it was getting worse. I can say without question that on inspection, the glue used is somewhat insufficient for purpose , though that obviously depends on the run. I suspect that like in any walk of life, some are better than others. Pete's for example must be within a fraction of perfect alignment to get the shots at F40-50 which he is achieving.

I agree, Pete's is pretty special. I would have to stich the best parts of the field together to hope to get close to his images.

Pete's is just a perfectly aligned prism. His post processing is exceptional, and takes a long time to perfect to the level he is at.., and the Skynyx a brilliant camera, but without perfect optics in that scope, the images would not be as good as they are.

Well, images look worse than it really looks. The views in the eyepiece are not that bad (I think) the problem is that I've never looked through other PST, so don't have anything to compare. The only thing that bothers me is that I can't see the solar granulation clearly, just hints of it. Is that normal? Do you guys see solar granulation clearly with your PST's? Greetings, Fernando

Granulation being clear on the PST is also dependent on the bandpass. Not all PST's are equal, some closer to 0.7A than the 1A spec. If yours is closer to the latter end, then a neutral density filter can sometimes help. (clouds have a similar effect)

#97491... bought used, original coatings, NOT SICK...
I am curious still as to why MY scope has no signs of rust, and has the original coatings?
Am I just lucky as all get out or did they do a different type of cement on my cell?
My scope has been put through the moisture gamut of the equivalent of hell and back, and still looks great. what is the deal here! I am on the list of scopes... right all around me there are sick scopes, but not mine????

I'm in the market for a H-Alpha scope, but this list doesn't inspire confidence in the quality control and customer service of Meade.
Should I gamble and buy a PST or should I wait for Lunt systems? If I go Lunt, I would either buy the 50mm filter or the 60mm H-Alpha scope.
