Any thoughts as to a photo archive of the different lens 'issues'. A photographic journal to compare and contrast against. Might be a useful tool for those that don't know what they are looking at or looking for.

I thought I'd post a quick follow-up on my rusted PST serial number 101040. When I discovered the problem the lens (gold) looked clear, but the views were hazy. If you removed the eyepiece and looked through the scope at the sun you could see nasty dark blotches all over the image. I called Meade, they agreed it sounded like rust and gave me an RGA number. I had it packed and dropped in the mail 3 days later. I was originally told the turn-around on PSTs was running 6-8 weeks, but gosh dolly I got mine back in 4. It looks great! It appears they converted it from a gold lens PST to a blue lens PST. Of course the weather is lousy, but I did sneak a peek at the sun through a hazy break in the overcast and that little tease looked okay. So..... I' one H-a-ppy camper!

I have #97230 and it looks like it has rust. Is Meade still repairing these under warrantee? I now have a Lunt so don't use and I'm trying to sell it, in checking saw the rust colored ring.

My PST is serial # 94552. Got it in 2005 from dealer Seans Astronomy shop. After couple years heard about rust problem and bothered to look at front lens and noticed rust colored residue on perimeter of scope. Had not noticed any thing about image and it still looked OK, but could have been due to slow advance of problem.
In March 2008, sent it in to Meade and they fixed it. Came back with clean front lens. Still didn't notice any difference in image, though.

Mine is serial # 96163. I am the second owner and the lens appears to be rusted. This is my first Ha solar scope and I am loving it. The views are amazing so I think I will leave as is. Besides, the warranty period is finish and Meade said $275 to repair.

My PST is serial number 94689. Survived well for a long time before developing the start of the rust problem so sent back to Meade in Germany about 18 months or so ago and they replaced the optics under warranty with the new blue transparent objective and new ERF. They also corrected the tuning ring which had to go way over to the extreme end and is now more central. Views now stunning and far better that before with wonderful proms and great surface detail.

I've gone through the thread . . . and still don't really know what I'm looking for.
Serial # of my PST is 97320.
So, it should be rusty. The views seem good but I have nothing to compare them to.
Pic of objective is attached. Bought used but with original paperwork indicating 'scope was shipped April 7, 2005. So no warranty coverage.

I have PST Serial# 107537. Purchased in Australia. Its blue.
First sunspot I saw was 1185 a few months ago.
Its my first scope of any kind and I love it..everything except the horrid focus ring and included 20mm lens. Maybe its just mine. I need a bigger scope already.
