Flares are surface features and fairly rare. What you are attempting to view are prominences, not flares.

Ok, Ok it's so late and even my Spanish is bad the only proper thing to do at this hours of the night is watching the stars.
The pipe wrench I never heard about it, we call them Stilson wrench, but PIPE!!, I should have known it!! (As a matter of fact I knew it, but it didn't came to my mind) I'm an engineer and we use a lot of English here, but don't tell it to nobody
Prominences, yes thats right, but I'm hoping for catching an X flare visually (just kidding)
We'll see what this little toy can do with the DBK.

Steve:
That'a a bummer! Yours was the 3rd oldest non-sick one too!!
This leaves John Hoare (94645) & Stephen Ames "darkstar528" (96038) as the oldest ones still. Your place as third oldest is now taken by our buddy Gustovo Pohls (98131) in Mexico!

BTW, I'll have a CAS hat order for you soon, there are new club members who want a cool hat!

I just had mine fixed by Meade. Serial # 94265 purchased in June 2004. I had difficulty contacting Meade but when I finally got hold of them everything went well. I probably wouldn't have done it without the feedback from this site. Thanks.

Good point, Steve, the edit feature seems to not work...
The text "Edit this PST" is there but it isn't a working link.

Hey Steve!
I'd love to go, but I'll have to play it by ear. When does it likely fill up?
It would be a hoot to have a meet-up!

Great job on that database, Richard. It would really be good if the mods could put it in a place of it's own or highlighted somewhere in the solar forum for easy access. Stuck in just a post within this large thread would make it easy to overlook.

Thanks for putting that together and maintaining the list all this time.

In mid-August I noticed the coating on my "gold" objective PST (#95028) had begun to deteriorate, and packed it off to Meade. The repaired unit came back the next month sporting a new blue/transparent objective and cemented subassemblies (old unit allowed full disassembly of the OTA, not so with the new one).

Tried to add it to http://elektronkind.org/pst/ but editing not available.

I'm happy to report that it is once again performing well.

Now if only the mount were a tad more portable, I'd be a happy camper!

That's what I call a real mount! As far as I know yours is the first report of a bad gold objective.

Can you describe how it started to fail? Do you have a picture?

#95028??, did they start renumbering them or did they take old ones and just change the objectives or was it already repaired once?...

I think it is just the other way around. The gold objectives are the ones that developed the "rust" problem. I haven't seen any reports of the new blue ones having the same problem. I had my gold objective replaced two years ago when it started developing the problem. Ser. #95967.
