Custom Tracking Rate on LX-90?
      #1245410 - 11/10/06 05:18 PM

I was having a very hard time drift aligning my lx-90, until I figured out that I had to set a custom tracking rate of about +60! Is this normal? And this seemed to vary up and down throughout the night, leaving me with few usable photos. I'm thrilled that I finally figured out my initial problem, but now I'm really confused with this new one. Please help!

I vagely remember having to set the tracking rate on my LX200GPS to about 66.

That sounds very high. Using an autoguider, logging the data and looking at it in a spreadsheet chart, I could see that my RCX was running slightly fast in its sidereal rate (the autguider kept having to make corrections to slow it down). The custom tracking rate as far as I'm aware (and if I'm wrong on this, I'm sure somebody will jump in), is a variance on the normal sidereal rate. Through experimentation and looking at the autoguider data, I've ended up with -05, i.e. -05 off the the standard sidereal rate. Of course the LX may be set up differently to the RCX...

I believe the guiding rate (as opposed to the tracking rate)on the Autostar is set to 66 though.

Cheers,

Nick

Ding ding ding ...give that man a set of free steak knives! You are correct Nick. It is the guiding rate. I just remembered a number of 66 for a rate. Thanks for setting me straight.

(Disclaimer..I am old and have a bad memory).
