I have had issues too at different places. With astro shots they need to use a manual alignment of the negative. The "Automatic" mode of the developer misses most shots. I had a great shot of lightning that the machine said was not even there. I have since picked up an HP scanner and will now just have them develop the film and I'll do the rest.
I just dropped off my latest attempt at AP at Ritz. I took pictures of what I was expecting, along with an explanation of what I was doing and the disclaimer that what I actually got may not be as nice as what was in the book. The guy seemed a little suspicious but he made note of what I had and after discussing this with him some more he deferred processing it until the more experienced developer dude shows up tomorrow.
Until I find a good, reliable developer this will be as much of the technique as all of the technical aspects of f stops, exposure times etc.
I guess I'll find out tomorrow how it all came out!

I take my film to a place called Dodd Camera. I think it's just local here in NE Ohio. I'd suggest looking up something similar with people who know film. This place has done a fine job on all my film.
I went back tonight to get my pictures. I was told by the guy behind the counter that the tech who developed the roll identified Orion as the machine displayed the frames. So I guess I found the place where I will drop off future rolls. Not all of my exposures came out, but what did looked good. I will post pictures of them once I get them scanned.
