Garrett Gemini 20x80 LWs... Anyone own these?
      #1253867 - 11/15/06 10:16 PM

I was thinking about the Garrett Gemini 20x80s LW (Lightweight) for Wide field star gazing and wondered if anyone has had experience with this model.

Ed, Thanks. I found a great deal of detailed info from your postings. Great stuff and highly quantitative.

I ordered the Gemini 20x80LW from Agena Astro.

Thanks again, Tom

The Gemini LW is a completely different family of binocular, not the same as the Gemini TWP.

Thanks, Ed. I do realize that from reading your articles. I was looking for a lightweight binocular that was between the Skymaster 15x70 and 25x100 (I have both, and have found them to be ok),and possibly replacing them with it. Do you think I should have gone with the more expensive 20x80 model- the ED model or as you refer to it in your review - GO? I may still have time to change my order.

I'm not aware of any ED model. I do not refer to any ED models. Perhaps you are referring to the GO signature series, which has an ED element in the eyepiece. That should not be confused as an ED binocular. The Oberwerk Ultra that I reviewed is in the same class as the signature series from GO.

The GO 20x80 that I refer to in my articles (sometimes with aperture masked to GO20x70) is the Garrett Optical 20x80 TWP (triplet water-proof). It is in the same class of binoculars as the Oberwerk 25x100IF. By same class I mean it is constructed exactly the same way.

The Gemini TWP is a step above the Gemini LW.
The signature series is a step above the Gemini TWP.

Hi Tom, I have the 20x80 Gemini LW and love 'em. These are my first pair of astronomical binoculars. Although I'm unable to give any indepth tehnical aspects of these because of my inexperience, I can at least say, that for the money, I can't see how any binoculars could top the performance of these. Also, dealing with Zach Garrett has been a big plus, as he readily answered e-mail regarding any technical and general comments I had regarding his product. Good Luck, Phil
