Got new scope and imaged! new
      #125292 - 06/12/04 02:01 AM

After fighting repeated power outages, dead UPS batteries, and servers insisting on corrupting their data, I decided to treat myself by buying a new scope. It also seemed like a good idea to end the agonizing which-scope decisions I've been preoccuping myself with lately.

I went down to Land, Sea, and Sky in Houston and bought an ETX-125. This is a great scope! I can pick it up and take it outside in one trip! The views of Jupiter were wonderful. I hadn't intended on imaging tonight as I wanted to get familiar with the scope, but I just had to try.

First thing I found out . . . my 1.8x TeleVue barlow doesn't fit! It's too long. The edge of the tube hits the flip mirror. :] So, my vidoes were a little small on the image scale size.

But, it is sooooo nice to have a scope that tracks well and in which the object doesn't move out of the FOV when I focus!

Tomorrow I install the electric focuser.

Here's my first two images. Again, the image scape is exceedingly small because I didn't realize my barlow wouldn't fit!!

Oh well, the other one isn't worth posting. Jupiter was really low in the sky at that point. Most of the frames are muddled with bad seeing.

Oh yeah: equipment, ETX-125AT, Philips ToUCam Pro II.

Congratulations on first light and first image! A little tough to be certain, but it looks like your focus was pretty good. Now it's about getting a Barlow that fits.

Are the ETX eyepieces a little smaller than 1.25" or something? Silly Meade...

Naw, last night I stuck my full-length barlow into it and it hit the flip-mirror (oops!!). Now I understand why people buy shorty barlows. I picked up an Orion 2x one today. Sky should hold. I will be trying it out tonight.

Congratulations, Michael! Time with Jupiter is really limited now. I had planned to set up this evening, but high winds and forecast at "Clear Sky Clock" were not encouraging.
Still, it's always worth a shot!
Looking forward to seeing your images. Don't say you haven't been warned about imagaing addiCCDtion!
