Wrong Photo ? new
      #1268156 - 11/25/06 09:12 AM

I was just re - visiting a VERY brief review in the CN binocular review section on the main page , by Markus Ludes , comparing a Takahashi 22 x 60 with a Zeiss 15 x 60 BGAT .

The attached image , however , appears to show NOT a Zeiss 15 x 60 BGAT , but a Zeiss 56mm Victory roof prism model .

wouldn't it be great though if that was Zeiss' latest 15x60 roof model?

Kenny,

It certainly is not the porro model of that name I know!

Zeiss currently do a range of 56mm bins, as you point out, but I haven't found one at 15x mag. So a bit of a mystery.

It is possible, of course, that Zeiss had such a model back in 2003 and discontinued it, like Leica has with my Trinovid 12x50?

The photo shows the 8x40 or 10x40 Zeiss Victory I (Abbe-Koenig) roof prism binocular. The series is in fact discontinued. The successor series are the Victory FLs. Those bins wasnīt that bad. Very lightweight and contrasty. Edge sharpness and sweet spot were even better than those of the most recent series. It suffered under some circumstances from CA though and thatīs probably why Zeiss introduced ED/FL objectives. I have no idea why Marcus chose a wrong photo.

Steve

Graham, the 15x60 BGAT is a well known porro model, now discontinued.
