Ahh, there's my baby! It's funny but that was Mark M's mount before it was mine. Definitely one of the "Good Ones". I hope the CGE I just bought from Mike is as good.
Looks real nice and glad it's found a good home

Hi LLEEGE,
New guy on the forums, but not to Astronomy and ATMing. If you have the specifics of how you hooked into the Dec axis with your mounting plate in another message, or any hints, would you mind passing them on?
Tom
I must be the po boy here, looked around for info on the new to me AP1200DA...and everybody has the GTOs. Oh well, it's a step up from my Astrola!

No pics, but I bought a block of 6061 Aluminum from my local MetalSupermarket. They sell drops by weight. 4-1/2 by 8 x 1-1/2 high. Milled a few recesses for the lock knobs to clear, drilled and counterboared a few holes and tapped a few others and poof! One riser block. It basically raises the saddle plate above the DEC lock knobs and allows the saddle to be mounted 90 deg offset. Alas, I am selling the CGE and I lost interest in the DSBS option. Too much of a pain to balance each setup. I have to be portable

I completely agree with you Happy Idiot. I use the Porta Mount with my 80ED more than my 12" Lightbridge. I love the fact that I can set the scope and mount out on my balcony and observe the sourthern sky in just minutes with out the long, oh wait, very long cool down of the 12"'er. KUDOS to Vixen and its Porta Mount!!!

Tom i am confused, you quoted me (Happy-Idiot) but you asked (LLEEGE) did you want specifics of my bino on fork mount or LLEEGE's Eq Mount? BTW welcome to Cloudy Nights.

Thanks for the welcome!

Tom, i can't give too many details on the conversion because i don't know the names of all the parts in question. But i had to remove the "Ears" that bolt to the SCT OTA because they interfered with the fitting of the large binocs, which made things complicated and i had to make my own thinner ears(light grey). If you want to make it very simple just mount a block of wood or aluminum right to the "EARS"(Curved bracket that bolts to the OTA) use the existing bolt holes. I love this conversion because i still get full use of the movement, locking, and fine adjustment capabilities of the Fork Mount plus you can pick these up on e-bay for $50 or less.

These two pics give me the flavor of what you did, THANKS.
IIRC my old Celestron had the "ears" integral to the bushing, and my DSCs hook to the shaft that came through. I just "tuned" my old C-8 up, but with a new mount coming...
The old forks could make a great platform for something like meteor showers using short focal length video cameras.
Ohhh myyy God, Just saw a truck commercial using "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath as the background music...I feel so OLD!!!!
