I wish!! The only big refractor I had was at the other end of the spectrum...a C6R. It was on an Atlas. A fun scope, indeed, but I like aperture.

I've had my AP1200 around the office for a few days so I could measure it for my pier adapter. It's heavy enough that I hurt my back lifting it onto the desk a few days ago. I think it is wiser to break it down for transport.
Excuse my clutter actually a good day for clutter.

Mike, whats the weight on the 1200 mount?
I was amazed at the 900's lightness. Only 40 Lbs. The 1200 doesn't look to be much bigger. At least using you monitor as a reference.

Hi Luke

The 1200 is 81 pounds I believe. It really doesnt look that much larger than the AP900 from some angles (IMHO). That's a 24" monitor in the middle. My back can tell the difference.

Hi Luke, skies have been awful for months. It comes and goes though, skies were terrific night after night during the 2005 Mars apparition.

Stefan: glad to see your Vixen ED and new mount finally came!

I finally got my Sphinx out for a real test drive (gave a first light report over on Equipment threads). It was a fabulous goto/tracker - after using Procyon, and Rigel as alignment stars, I was able to land M81 in FOV of my 6mm Radian with no fine tuning!

So: for this forum: here's the first picture of a Sphinx.

Clear skies - but not for me anytime soon!

The before and after shots. On the left is what it looked like when I picked it up! On the right is what 3 weeks solid work can do. There is no Brand name coz it was home made by the previous owner 25 years ago. It sat down the side of his house rusting for the last 20 years!

Very nice...

Hey Mike how is the altitude knob location for tightening?
Looks a bit tight for gettin in there.

Also does this mount provide for Azymuth adjustment, or do you have to rotate the pier??

That still is pretty heavy.
I remember when I and my son attempted to put my mount on its pier for the first time.... . It weighs well over 150 lbs, and we just about died, screeming, and cussin all the way. Getting it up on a pier that was already 5 ft off the ground made me so thankful that it won't happen ever again....That way.

Side note:
After talking to my father about it he laughed, and said, *are you nuts, I had to use a chain pulley system affixed to the garage rafters to lift it into place*

Thanks Dad....

Great AP Mike.
