We need to have a sidebar on the focuser conversion on your 6" newt, Duncan - I have a friend who has a similar OTA and it would be useful to have your experiences with the conversion...

Beautiful mounts and scopes Charlie!!!
Thanks - my understanding is that the Brandon Refractor is completely unique from start to finish - not only is the refractor itself a true one-of-a-kind, the mount is a vintage EQ mount... I'm told that it's a Zeiss, but I can't confirm this.

Sure thing - I'll have to see if I have any photos I took during the mod. Not sure if I still have any... but once I get a chance to look, I'll start a thread on the reflectors list.

A little on the bulky side when folded up, but very stable and reasonably priced. I'm surprised I don't see more of them at Star Parties (in fact I've never seen another like it).

Thanks Derek. Any idea how heavy it is? Do you think it's stable enough to put a mount similar to yours and a C8+3"APO configuration on it?
I'm currently using my SVP tripod but that's getting too heavy.

Jeremy,
It's plenty solid, it can easily support my body weight (170lbs). Its not the lightest thing though, probably at least 30lbs, so you may not save any weight from what you have now.

This mount was a home-made Foucault style mount. I can remember that the AR motor was made from a walkman.
This photo was taken in 1988... and my head was full of hair.

That is a beautiful mount!!!! Any plans to release the blueprints? I have a machine shop and would love to build one like it. That tripod seems like a bargain for $159.00...
