Thanks Stefan,

it's 'just' a plain Orion Atlas. In spite of all the bads things that have been said about this mount, I'm very happy with it. Absolutely no jitters at all, not even at insanely high magnifications on the moon ( + 800 X).

Hi Rob,
I love them too. Maybe it has to do with nostalgia: the first scope I've ever built was a 110 mm Kutter back in 1971 (much younger and much more hair...). I stuck with them ever since.

Now that takes me back.....

Did you built the one you posted .

Here is a pic of the mount and scopes I and my father built.
He built the mount, and big green scope. I helped in the finishing, and I built the white scope for imaging.

Post lots of pix....

Here is a close-up of the GEM. This is an older picture, before I rebuilt the clock drive, and built the polar scope.

that's an awesome mount Rob.
I built the small schief myself at the age of seventeen. The mount was an all wood construction (except for the RA and DEC axles) modelled after a design from Anton Kutter himself. I believe he called it the 'Flori' mount after his wife or one of his children. This setup gave me a lot of enjoyment especially during a favourable mars opposition in the early seventies.

No plans to build a shed at the moment. I'll see how it goes over the next year and then look at it again.

The mount weighs around 150 lbs, not including the hydraulic pier, or counter arm/weights.

Hey, did you build your current scope??

Rob,

I also built my current schief using only handtools and simple materials. The OTA assembly is made of aluminum tubing, wood for the saddle between the secondary and the primary tube, threaded rods to keep everything together and an old pressure cooker to hold the primary mirror. I really love low-tech solutions in ATM'ing.
