Just got my January issue of 'Astronomy' magazine in the mail, and would you believe they slipped a jewelry catalog inside the plastic covering? I've never seen this before.. is it a new marketing thing?
The catalog's 56 pages and has regular jewelry, but there's some (pretty pricey) celestial stuff on the back six pages. For only $12,500 you can have an Orion-shaped diamond pin.

Diamonds may be 'other' girls' best friends, but I gotta tell ya, this girl would much rather have an observatory with a warming room attached.

The catalog has come in previous years, this time with both Astronomy and S&T. I tossed the first one, my wife found the second, but agreed too expensive.

This is the first one I got also, I would have much preferred a catalog with Astronomy goodies (and not diamonds!). It now rests in peace in File #13.

Carol,
From a slightly different perspective, it was one of the few times that my wife showed a genuine interest in what came in or with my astronomy magazines. Hmph... go figure. What a mixed set of blessings there!

I think I've gotten one of those every year for the past 3 or 4 years - straight to the recycling bin (before my wife sees it, of course!)

I've gotten it a couple of times.
My wife looked through the first and said, "People wear that stuff?" And into the bin it went...

I got one last year and this year with S&T. Kind of neat, those constellation pins, but far beyond anything we'd buy.

Especially since the Orion figure cost around 12k....

My subscriptions are on-again off-again which is probably why I'd never received the catalog before. Btw, just for grins and giggles, I totalled up the entire celestial collection... a mere $103,235.

I'm pretty sure we can all think of better things to spend that on...

One of these days my wife is going to figure out just how much I've sunk into this hobby. I'm not trying to hide it from her, but I don't exactly go out of my way to point it out either.
Thank god it's mostly "my" (as opposed to family) money. (And for three good friends who I can point to and say - "But look dear, I could be worse."...)

I tried that line on my wife. Her response was, "Not without a change of address..."

I got one too!, i can remember getting one once before. Yea! with $12,500 i`m sure you could build a nice observatory with a warming room, then you can look at all the diamonds you want.

My wife glanced through it, she didn't care for any of the pieces either. However I can't say much when it comes to buying astronomy stuff since my wife likes going to art shows. However her stuff does make the house look better (or so she claims )
