I was out under the night sky last night for the first timein about 2 weeks. I had the N8 out playing with it, and decided to bring out a pair of binos for when I trying to decide what to GOTO next. First I brought out my trusty(?) old 12 X50's, and was panning the milky way with them. Not bad at all. Then when I noticed the Milky WAy was now naked eye visible, I said whoa!, and traded the 12 X 50's for my Skymasters. Oh My Lord. What a difference that made. I know all of you are saying "What's your other first?". Well I was panning around Albireo, and remembered tat M27 was easterly of it. So I started slowly panning east. In a very short period of time, I SAW it!! Oh wow! Before now, I had only seen it with the N8 by the GOTO method. I can't say I saw any structure as I was hand-holding the Skymasters, but I definitely saw M27. Looked like a luminescent irregular snowball in the 15 x 70's! So, I then gave my self a crick in the neck, and found M13, and then M92. My next goals are M3,M5,M10,M12,M14, etc. I definitely like the idea of giant binos for astronomy. Being able to use both eyes is such an improvement, and a lot cheaper than a binoviewer would be. Clear Dark Skies!! Pete

Looks large and failry detailed in the cheapie 25x100's..... Objects always shock me as their larger apparent image scale in binoculars that is for sure. Even average 15x70's and a decent tripod, is quickly becomming my favorite starter setup for people interested in astronomy. Gives a ton of bang for the buck indeed, and seems to have just enough wow factor for those that try them in decent dark sky.

I'll tellya, here lately I seem to drag the Skymasters, and tripod out more than the N8, or the Orion. I like the fact that they don't seem to have to chill, and I can get right to play. Clear Dark Skies to you sir!! Pete

Pete, Darn it, you are going to make me spend more $$$ !!!!! Quit it - my bank account can't take much more. Congrats on the accomplishment. I have not done that well with my bino's yet, and I am currently limited to 11x56's. Someday I will join everyone else in the land of "Big Binos"...

I think your Skymaster's have an angular FOV that's about 4 degrees. Try looking at M6 & M7 somtime in the same field. I bet it's nice. My obies with their 2.8 degree FOV barely miss.

Hey, Scott! You can get the SkyMaster 15 X 70's for around $75.00 right now. Add another $100.00 for a good tripod like a Sunpak 7500, and you're good to go. Don't make the same mistake I did, and buy a Wal-Mart "Heavy Duty" tripod! It's just barely better than hand-holding, and when you pan in the azimuth, it feels like there's sand in the bearing surface of the head. AFTER using WD-40 (the amateur's best friend). Plus if I want to view close to the zenith, I gotta use a chair, and sit down. though that ain't such a bad idea, as that shortens up that whippy "Heavy Duty" center pillar to where you don't get seasick looking thru the binos, plus it gives my achin' back a break. Tellya what to do: Take your wife out to Brown Derby, get her loaded on Margaritas, take her dancing, buy her a dozen roses, and she'll let you buy the binos, and the tripod, all in the same outing!! Clear Dark Skies to you sir!! Pete

Yes, I dare say the 25x100's have become my most used instrument by far. I find DSO performance outstanding with them. And the ease factor is a 10+ on a scale of 1 to 10.

Rusty, You know I want a set of 22x100's. That's not fair - BUT BRING THEM ANYWAYS.

Let me repeat the comments by Bluewater; my 25 X 100's are definitely my most used equipment. I am now considering the Burgess 100mm binos with interchangable eyepieces at $995 with tripod.
