Well it is time for a camera. I am really thinking about the 900NC, but I am really not sure. I had a Neximager before. I will be imaging through an f15 4" refractor. I could afford a more expensive camera after the first of the year, but what would that be...say a step up from the 900NC? Thanks for info.

The DMK21AF04 (monochrome), or the DFK21AF04 (colour).
The 900nc *is* better than the NexImage. The DMK/DFK is better than the 900nc. It depends how much you want to spend and how serious you are about your planetary/lunar imaging.
There's a bunch of threads here discussing the DMK, and there's a bunch of images from people who use them.
Good luck!

There's a lot to be said for starting out with the Phillips webcam. You don't a have to bust the budget to get your feet wet. And it is capable of very fine results.
Take a look at pics taken by Eric Ng and Wes Higgins (Wes is in the gallery here) with toucams. Really amazing.

The budget says stick with the 900NC. Now I need an adapter for it. I found one on the big auction site, but it will be coming from China. Around 22.00 shipped. Do you guys know of any other place to get the 900NC adapter? I plan to find a 900NC and order it. Looking to get some imaging going by the beginning of FEB. My scope will not be ready until then.

If you want new and not mind the older model, you can get the Pro II model from OPT with 1.25" adapter included (I got mine from here last year). http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?pid=4086&kw=Philips&st=2
Report in the Toucam Yahoo group stated no difference in the chip between 900C and the Pro II model. Anyone knows more about this?
Thanks, Ron B[ee]

You can't go too wrong with the older Toucam II; but most reports I've read so far give the 900nc good press also.

I went with the 900NC. I just want to make sure I get the correct adapter. I really need to know which one for sure to get for the 900NC? I don't want to pick up the wrong one. I saw one on ebay for the 900NC listed from China. I used a Neximager before, but I was never really pleased with it. I think there are good ones and bad ones out there, and I got a bad one.

Even a good NexImage isn't very good.
The chipset in the camera is just flat out noisy at low light levels, and has bad horizontal banding issues at 10fps, 20fps, 25fps, and 30fps. I can only use mine at 5fps or 15fps, and 15fps is only good for something with the brightness of Jupiter or higher.
The 900NC and 810-840 TouCams seem to have a far better chipset in it given all the really nice images I've seen done with it.
I'm really struggling to decide whether to get a b/w modded TouCam, or get a DMK.

This seems to work better by telephone if there are compatibility questions. Tell them what gear you have what you need to do. They usually have the solution and good advice.

Why not just order from here? They throw in the adapter with it. I ordered mine from them and all is well:

That is what I will do. They do have the adapter and all. Thanks for the link.
