Just got the new to me LX200GPS home and all of the accessories to use everything I already have. I guess I got lucky on this one. The scope effect weather lasted 1 day and has given me so far 5 successive clear days.

nothing fancy, but it sure is fun. (the scope is tilted to vent out the OTA heat before dark.)

unaccustomed as i am to professional weightlifting, i built a roller system (shown) from three 40" fir 2x4's, some 1/2" high pressure plywood, three 3" platform rollers ("CHINA"), and a handful of carriage bolts. if all three wheels are turned outwards and locked, it's quite stable. (the wood below one wheel corrects the driveway drainage grade.)

i also bring out a folding table for eyepieces, atlases, laptop, thermos, etc.

Nice job on the rolling spider!

(Having bad visions of scope on wheels on sloped driveway… Mine is sloped so much that I dare not drop eyepiece caps as they roll into the street.)

Len, what a monster! Looking good.

Is that enough pier under it?

And, is that a custom wedge?

Mark

It really stinks to follow Len's show stopping 16" LX200. Here are mine (don't think I posted them on this forum before). This is a picture of my 10" LX200ACF and 14" LX200GPS. AKA "Fatman" and "Little Boy"

Thanks Kent.
I intend to use it for the 2 nights of new moon every month in summer.
We'll see how it goes.

My long term plan is to have a permanent observatory erected in a dark sky environment.
I'm working on it, but finding a suitable place at a reasonable price is proving somewhat challenging - until then, mobile it is.

Martin

Martin how do keep it level(or is that tripod already level?)? I really like that "tripod" is that custom made,or can it be ordered?

Hi Bert,
If you look closely, you'll see there's a detachable castor at the very end of each leg used for positioning, and then, just inboard of the castor wheel assembly, there's a jack screw with a large steel pad for levelling and good load distribution.

This is a home made tripod.

You can order one if you like, but it's really simple to make if you can weld.

Martin

Although I have several pics on the "observatories" section, I thought I'd post a pick here now.
