I still need a good table and chair. I use Tele Vue bags for my 76 and Eyepieces. I usually use the dust cover from the M12 for a tray for small stuff (red light, caps, etc.).
I just sent my M12 back to Meade, again. Sigh. At least they paid shipping this time.

Hi Mark..
Haven't seen you posting in the "CATS" forum for a while. Why did you have to send your Meade scope back? Do you like the views through the 12" ACF OTA? I am considering getting one to upgrade from my C11. I miss the ACF optics that I had with the Meade 10" scope I owned about a year ago. Hope you get your scope back soon. Take care..

Hey Bill,
Unfortunately I am the type of poster that only has the knowledge to ask questions rather than answer them. I often find I have nothing to input though I read the forum frequently.
I was hoping to post another "first light" report (which would have to be called "third light") once I got some good hours on the scope after the last repair. I had about 35 hours (6 nights) in when I had another failure. This time it was the "finding home" sensor. The scope would just spin around until it hit the RA brake when trying to align.
I got a hold of the Customer Service Manager at Meade (Carlos) and told him my story with emphasis on my frustration and long standing loyalty to Meade. He said they would make sure to get the scope in perfect working order as quickly as possible and they had UPS come pick it up the next day - free of cost to me. Repair lead time is 3-4 weeks but I plan to start nagging next week.
It figures, I was about 30 minutes away from getting to view M31 in the 12" for the first time. It is rising over my eastern trees at about 4:00am now. As for what I think of the optics - Well, I have owned a 2080 GEM from Meade for 24 years. I also have had a Pentax Refractor for longer. So compared to that experience the ACF 12" blows my mind. It is incredible. The views of my favorite objects are a stunning upgrade to say the least. Compared to the TV76 though the 12" loses to sharpness. BUT, the "faint fuzzies" are knock dead gorgeous in the 12 and sometimes make me question why I own a 3". That said, I find the star sharpness on the 12" to be excellent and the light gather to be an aperture-lovers dream. On a steady night, Saturn is breathtaking in the 12" with the 13 Ethos and hands down beats the 76 with the 3.7 Ethos.
I hope you get back to your Meade. Though I have had problems, I am still enjoying the ride and feel like they are standing behind me.

I cannot compare with the beast, but my modest setup is giving me considerable fun. Bought used, I'm slowly adjusting, cleaning and upgrading all the moving bits.

I am loving that perimeter fence, brilliant idea. I guess you need to get a fair distance out of Capetown to enjoy the skies away from the light pollution. Excellent pics.

Yep, the Cape Town light pollution is getting worse. Although I'm just on the outskirts where the skies are about mag 4.5 on a good night.
Thanks for the kind comments.

Here is my setup. I've spent the last several months getting back into my 15 year old 10" LX200 Classic. Got the Wheeley Bars for Christmas, had to get a new battery for the Kendrick Power Pack, and just added the SkyWire to hook up the iPad and got the observing chair.

Post 1/3. Some absolutely stunning setups in this thread. Mine are minimalistic in comparison. My first LX200 is one of the last 7” Maks (GPS, UHTC, Christmas 2005). The “matching blue motorized case” (quoting from an earlier post) in the background is not mine – mine did not fit into the picture.

Post 2/3. Last summer I picked up an old 12” LX200GPS from a club member at a very agreeable price. He had hardly used it. It has since been out to the remote dark site with me on average two times a month. Again, the setup is minimalistic but no effort is spared with regard to dew control. You can see that there are two overlapping heating strips for the corrector; not a solution I would suggest to everyone but it works. The tarp prevents the AC/DC converter from sinking into the snow. The scope is actually standing on a concrete pad, although I did not completely clear it from snow. The pad and the AC power are the amenities of the Cherry Springs Astronomy Field provided by the Pennsylvania State Parks. Here the tripod is in its lowest position because I was going for some far southern objects.
