Finally tried my 2" GSO 30mm new
      #145464 - 07/11/04 02:55 AM

I'm not really qualified to give an in-depth EP report, but I will say I'm happy with this EP! Didn't have as much coma near the edge of the FOV as I was worried about. I usually don't look too near the edge anyway, but this time I did, just to check it out. I was looking at a star-rich area in Cygnus for the test. This is also the widest FOV EP I own & I love it! Figure it's about 2 degrees according to the math. I'll have to find 2 stars 2 deg. apart & see if they fit. Did not have any blacking out near the edges if I moved my head around. I've got a 25mm EP that drives me nuts sometimes with this problem! Nice EP and affordable. Jim

I have the 30mm GSO also. I love it in all my scopes.

I sold my 30mm BW Optic, it was to heavy and soft around the edges.

I was looking at the Cygnus region last night with the 30mm GSO. I find it a very bright eyepiece in all my scopes (4" Achro, 8" Newt & 10" Newt).

Teemed up with my new 22mm Panoptic, many DSOs are found more expediantly.

I am patiantly awaiting the arival of my Burgess 26 & 32mm SWA. I have the complete WA set and love the perfomance they give me.

Jim, see if you can get the 2 base stars of Lyra to fit. They're listed on EdZ's list of measured separations as being 2* apart.

This was my conclusion as well. I had one on trial, pending that it work at f/5, and sent it back due to really terrible edge performance. I read somewhere that this may be due to only getting the advertised FOV by using the barrel as the fieldstop. I don't know if that's true or not.
But I'm MUCH, MUCH happier with an even less expensive Burgess 32mm 2" which doesn't attempt quite so much claimed FOV. I keep wondering if the Burgess and GSO eyepieces aren't same sourced. No proof of that, but it is one suspiscion.

i finally got to compare the 30mm GSO with my two 2" ep's, a 35mm orion deep view, and a 40mm orion optiluxe. we all agreed that the GSO had less field curvature than the deep view. it wasn't quite as sharp or "contrasty" as the optiluxe, but the GSO is also 1/3 the price. i was impressed with it, especially for its price.

lighttrap, here's the update. Both base stars of Lyra DID fit in the FOV with the Ring Nebula nicely framed in the middle! Nice sight! Thanks, Jim

Lets convince GSO to start making Ritchey-Chretiens and APOs so we can all finally afford it. How about cars? I dont know about you guys, but my GSO is one of the best buys Ive ever made.
