Making an astro site
      #1500487 - 03/23/07 09:28 AM Attachment (44 downloads)

Hey
I have stated the construction of my new astronomy website. I think im just going to use xhtml and css to make it. Cant really be bothered modifiying my php database system.
I think i can do all the technical stuff just need some help with the design side. Id like to get peoples oppinions on here of what they like to see on personal astro sites and layout and such.
This is my current style sheet/layout

Please feel free to critisise it and tell me what i can do better.

Thanks
Alex

Personally I find the pictures a bit messy but other then that it looks nice. Maybe just have one pic or none at all? After all the gallery is just one click away

Nav links at the bottom of the page would be nice.

Do you mean have links to main pages like gallery at the bottom or have return to top of page buttons.
I have these on the longer pages for easier navigation and in some articles.

The pictures look better on full screen when they are spread along one row. I thoguht it looked kind a empty without them.

Thanks for the advice anyways

Alex

Have the links to the main pages also at the bottom, once someone has read or scrolled all the way down a page it makes it easier the having to go back to the top of the page to move to a main section.

Well done! I really like the banner and however did you get that great URL? Perhaps 'in the flesh' the black on grey is easier on the eyes but I found it just a tad hard to read, maybe insufficient contrast (or maybe my old eyes!) Good luck with your site and your studies.

Yes i have actually got that url someone else has ukastronomy.com though so i got uk-astronomy.com
I think the black on grey is better i find black on white is too contrasty and can strain your eyes?

Thanks for the tips anyway ill add your sugestions.
