Well, I finally got motivated dispite rainy weather. Built my pier today. Here are a couple of pics. If you want more pics of the concrete portion let me know. If you want to know why I call it "Peekaboo Ridge" I can post a 360 degree view of the Horizon...

Pix! Pix! Please post the pic of your horizon and all the construction phase.
What type of obs. are you building? A dome, rolloff?
Thanks for sharing, Ken

Post some pics of concrete! LOVE the stuff.
Nice pier, if you get bored with it holding a scope, you could cut the base flange off put a nice pointy nose cone on it and use it for a missle.

Do we want more pics?.....Now what kind of question is that. It a Nor'easter here I have nothing to do but buy things for my OB which I have done nothing with for weeks.
I want pics and I want them now! And get me some while I'm waiting
Nice job on the pier by the way. I like the color too. It's different from the usual ho hum pier colors....

Ok Ken, here ya go. Don't worry, I just got the parts I need for my chainsaw.
Here is a model of what I'm planing to build. It's a little different and if it doesn't work I'll build a roll off.

Here yah go Manny. Sorry, not much concrete because the pier is sitting over my drainfield. I'm forced to try a minimalist approch.

Yup Steve, it's not your typical color but I think I like it.
Thanks Steph and Congratulations to YOU! You must be thrilled.
Starbob, the mounts is a CG-5. I got the idea for using the stock az tang from "celestial_search". The screw is 6M X 1.00 - metric. The pipe is 6" ID with a 1/4" wall and 44 inches long. The pier weighs 90 lbs. I posted awhile ago when I made the adapter plate here.

Rob,
I love the model. I do have one concern that may be a non issue but what is the frost depth if any where you live? I ask as I have seen frost heave lift 900 lb concrete supports 5 inches out of the ground around here.
I'm looking forward to seeing it go together.

Hi Bobby, I was concerned about frost heaving too. Footing depth out here is 18". I put six inches of cover over the block and there was no problem this winter. It' got down to 17 degrees and doesn't get much colder than that. The pier is still plumb. (thank God)

Rob,
Great design, I can't wait to see it all finished.
Nice scenery but how much does it effect your view of the sky?

Sorry no pics, it's raining here- imagine that.
I got something done this weekend. The pier (deck) blocks are set, level,sqare- and the heavy 4X6 perimeter framing and supporting 4X4 posts are done. Just need to hang the joists and nail down the floor. I'll try again for pictures tomorrow. This weekend is going to be trenching, conduit, and adding a few breakers to the panel. My wife is getting power with switches for her waterfalls and lighting out of the deal. Small price to pay. Her project has been on the honeydew list for four years now…
