Last week the weather in SE Wisconsin was fantastic for viewing, so I managed to get my scope and DSI out for three nights of great imaging. It was a real treat and my system "played nicely with me." This week the weather sucks so I'm working on processing what I captured last week, but I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the data I have collected. In just three nights imaging with my little DSI, saving as LRGB FITS files, I managed to acquire almost 30GBs of images to process!
After some preliminary image processing to quickly see what I've got, I've decided to back up all the images to DVD-R next - which will take seven DVDs. One of the images of M51 is over 1000 frames, X4 since it's LRGB - it won't even fit one one DVD-R - I'll have to split the source files up!
How does everyone deal with their image data overload?

I did the same thing; three clear nights in a row and went crazy with my DSI and DSI Pro. I'm still wading through the data. I use FITS3P and go through the data one set at a time tossing the bad images and stacking the good ones using drizzle offline. As soon as I'm happy that the stacked image (also saved as a FITS3P) I toss the source images.
This is a fun way to make it through the cloudy/rainy/stormy weather.

Buy a external USB book style storage drive. I have a 40 gig laptop & store on a 250 gig storage drive, I then burn to cd/dvds for long-term storage. Each session of avi's ends up being around 10 gigs for me, now I have started DSO imaging as well & looking for a new USB2 planetary imager this is only going to increase.

I just bought a 100 GB HD for my laptop. I also have a 100 GB second drive on my desktop & an external 300 GB HD. I just bought a WD 60 GB HD that I use to transfer from my laptop to my desktop as I find that the images don't look good when processing on my laptop. The WD HD powers off the USB port so I can transfer with needing extra power.
