First Moon new
      #1563652 - 04/24/07 10:48 AM Attachment (31 downloads)

Here is my first image of the moon taken with my AP160 and my SPC900NC webcam last night 4/23. It is roughly centered on Maurolycus.

Great first moon image!

Focus looks good. Next time, maybe try reducing the brightness of the frames that you are capturing to help avoid blowing out the detail on the right side.

Thanks lernerda. Thanks Darren.

Since the moon is so bright, I opted to let the software control the exposure. It looked good on the screen. I suppose I could stretch the contrast.

Thanks for the tip!

Impressed
It amazes me how fast the technology has moved in the last decade, and how amateurs are now producing images limited only by the seeing, that rival professional images only 20 years ago.

Nice shot Chris. I have a ton of stuff from 4/22 of the moon. I hope I get something this good.

Thanks everyone.

John, it does amaze me how easy it is to get really good images with a $60 webcam. Even 10 years ago it would be quite challenging to get images like this without very expensive gear.

I was thinking it may be fun to create a mosaic of the whole moon. The fact that I can take 50 images in 10 seconds I could cover the whole moon in no time...

Great moon image. It's hard to believe it's your first -- my first didn't look anything like this.
