Lunar 100 guidebook
      #159664 - 07/30/04 08:43 PM

Tom (desertstars) and I have collaborated on a little guidebook to assist those of us who would like to observe Chuck Wood's Lunar 100. The booklet contains an observing log and a list of the features sorted by best viewing opportunity.

Neither Tom or myself have any connection to Sky & Tel... beyond being avid readers... (which first published the list in an article earlier this year), or to Sky Publishing (which owns the rights to the list). We are simply providing this handy reference -- free of charge -- to our fellow lunar aficionados!

We agreed to make it available here, as an attachment to a post in this forum... but it is in PDF format and that is not one of the allowed extensions for file attachments . Not sure I understand the logic there, but I don't make the rules.

Get your copy here: Observing the Lunar 100 guidebook

Enjoy!

After providing the attachment, I got a message indicating that the process could not proceed because "The files you may upload must have the following extension: .gif,.jpg,.txt,.zip,.png,.xls,.ppt,.doc,.rtf,.txt,.htm,.html "

Seems PDF should be added to that list as the format allows smaller file sizes. Guess I could just zip it, but it's no problem letting folks get it from the linked site.

Well, the link Peter provided works fine for me, so while Tom L. is looking into the matter everyone can still access it. Hope you all find it helpful!

Great working with you, Peter!

Thanks for this valuable contribution. Observing the Moon has never had priority #1 (auhhh, what a confession to make in this forum!) in my 40 years (on and off) observing the sky. This has changed lately, when I turned my inherited 80mm/f15 Zeiss refractor at the Moon. Despite its small aperture, it gives razor sharp images and excellent contrast on the Moon, and without any filtering needed. The last months have got lot of inspiration in this forum.
I'm not sketching or photographing, so I can't contribute this way. My main interests is observing Planets, Moon and double stars.

Well, it is meant to promote interest in the Lunar 100. Rumor has it that Dr. Wood's column featuring L100 features will eventually become a book.

Boy, I sure hope so! I just started reading Modern Moon. I could stand to have more books like that in my library!

It is called: the modern moon; a personal view.
and yes, his plans are to publish the book like "the modern moon" is the book of the articles(smaller) published in S&T

Tom, I think you're getting a little crazy about this "lunar"-tic vs. "Luna"-tic thing...I prefer lunatic myself...but I'm splitting rilles.

Just wanted to thank Tom and Peter for the work they did compliling the L 100 guidebook. When I had a spur of the moment opportunity to observe on 22 Aug., I was able to quickly see which Lunar 100 features would be visible and get right to it.
