Had a real adrenalin rush last night.
Was sweeping the Scutum MW last night at 100x with my 15 inch f/5 when I ran into two objects in my fov.
It was obvious that one was a gc (6712), the other was a diffuse round blob about 1/2 degree ESE that looked like a comet.
Wasn't on the SkyAtlas chart. Went into the house and looked up the comet ephemerus on the website; no comets listed in Scutum. Now I was getting excited.
Unfortunately, the Uranometria revealed it was IC 1295. Blinking with an OIII confirmed it was indeed a pn.
So much for comet P/Mr.Bill.
OBTW, a real nice pair in a large aperture.

Hey Bill,
Use that large aperture to see another PN between NGC 6712 and IC 1295, this being PN G025.3-04.6 = PK 025-04.1 = K 4-8. It is about 5' WNW of IC 1295 and is stellar, but is easy to identify by blinking with an OIII filter. It is one of a little arc of 5 stars opening towards the south.
