Last evening was a clear average seeing night. With Jupiter only 27° above the southern horizon near midnight it was time to try and pull out some detail in the cloud decks of the gas giant. The highlights of the view included a wide NTB with 2 barges glimpsed from time to time along the northern edge. Festoons between the NTB and NEB were the easiest features to pick out. The NP region appeared mottled and the SP region exhibited two light bands. Most other features were indistinct. Although I frequently examine Jupiter, this is the first time in a few years that I have sketched it.

Frank,
An excellent observation of Jupiter showing detail. The North Equatorial Belt (NEB) does appear prominent with the festoons projecting from it's southern border. The South Equatorial belt (SEB) appears diminished (thin, irregular bands). The South Temperate Belt (STB) appears broad except for it's preceding end. I look forward to your future observations of Jupiter (and other objects).

Michael and Tommy5,
Thank you for the compliments. Jupiter is always an interesting target to examine whenever it is above the horizon. However, it is a challenge to sketch.

Mark,
Thank you. Be sure to take a look at the recent Jupiter sketches by Carlos EH and Sol Robbins for sketches that better capture the view.
