The author is actually a group of co-authors. They are all Cloudy Night contributors. It is available on Barnes and Noble and Amazon web sites.

Bic is being modest -- he's one of the authors, otherwise known as David Moody. Other authors are Richard Handy (CN:kraterkid), Sol Robbins (same), Jeremy Perez (same), and Erika Rix (Erix).

Congrats to you all, looking forward to getting my hands on it!

Since i work weekends , I'll be reading it and doodling at work. Then weather permitting I can try my hand at what i've picked up at the ep on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.I've buzzed through a few chapters, very well thought out and put together.

Jim,
The doodling at work is the best thing you can do. Practice is very helpful before you have to actually put it out in the field.

Hi Faith,

Try this link. Let me know if it doesn't work. [edit: nevermind ]

Jim, thanks very much for the heads-up that you received your copy. It's encouraging to know that things are starting to move now. I hope you find it helpful!

Jim,

I'm so glad to hear the book is getting to folks like you.

In many ways what arrived at your doorstep was a labor of love for all involved.

It started as Rich Handy's baby. His wished to have a coherent all inclusive view of his love for what he does and what he sees in others.

I hope that this book has some benefit, not only for our astronomically minded community, but the future one as well. I believe this is Rich's gift to us all. His gift to me.

It was a pleasure and my honor to meet you and many other CNers at the last NEAF.

Hope to see y'all again.

Best,

--------------------
Sol Robbins

Well, I sent off for a copy from Amazon (UK) and they sent me an email saying they can't find it (it was advertised on their site, for heaven's sake!) and have cancelled my order.

So, I'm going to try and get a copy elsewhere.

Faith,
I am surprised and sorry to hear that. I just received my Amazon (US) ordered copies yesterday.

Barnes and Noble also has it listed. However, I cannot speak to the UK site.

I also want to echo Sol's comments about Rich. This was Rich's baby and he asked to invited us to play, for which I am thankful. It was a long gestation, but I believe we are happy with the results.

Folks,

The real inspiration for writing this book was the entire community of observers at Cloudy Nights and the panoply of sketchers that populate this site. I wanted the book to reflect the variety of sketchwork and media for which CN is noteworthy. It was all a bit of a learning curve for me, I must admit. In truth, the whole book rested on bringing together some of the most gifted and giving astronomical sketchers I could find. I think you'll agree I was successful in this endeavor. If this book offers reason enough to set up your scope and spend some time concentrating on sketching the details of a favorite celestial object, our efforts will be well rewarded!

Faith, Sally Russell has informed me that the Amazon UK will not be delivering the book for another 8 weeks. She pre-ordered several weeks ago.

Good grief! It might be quicker to order it from overseas!

Tom, I'm as confused as you are about the Amazon shipping schedule. Do any of the rest of the co-authors have any up to date info on the US and overseas schedule?

Rich,
So far, it is a mystery. I received my order (2 books) from Amazon, but it shows the book as unavailable. Barnes and Noble was taking pre-orders (a friend of mine ordered through it a while ago), but when I checked on their site this morning, it was showing that it was out of stock and not taking orders. I'm guessing they were pre-sold out of whatever stock they received from Springer (which is a good thing as far as the authors are concerned!).

I'm sorry I can't give you any more, yet.

Sheesh. Eight weeks seems like a mighty long time. We'll see if we can get any information from our representative at Springer about timelines outside the US. Sorry you ran into a brick wall, Faith.

Paul and I got our copies yesterday from Amazon. I believe a few of the online bookstores are usually late updating their sites...which may be part of the problem. And if the info isn't updated, then the people that work for them may not have the current information either.

Thanks everyone for your interest in this book. And Rich, thank you so much for getting us all together for this project.
