One of the fun things about live astro-video sketching is the adjustments to get different things. Being new with Jupiter, my sketching is not that good, and the haze and changing conditions were making things pretty interesting. Since the moons positions are part of the planet's frame, I decided to capture what I could of the planet but also grab the moons. This requires different settings and a different approach. I chose the size/position of planet for the paper, roughed the positions of the moons, grabbed the detail on the planet, checked (and corrected) the moons positions, and then grabbed the 2 faint stars (at least I think they are stars) while on a reduced/fast integration setting. The more I watched the planet, the more I noticed detail, until the haze started thickening and all the edges became obscurred. The colors I saw are pretty true except a bit darkened, but that is because the video astro camera accents contrast within a scene and I had adjusted brightness down to see the colors more clearly. The link takes you to the sketch.

Roland, Great Jupiter sketch. Nice work on the surface features. You even got the Galilean moons, nice going. Frank

Roland,
An interesting experiment in planetary observing. It appears that you were able to see some detail on Jupiter which is not easy this apparition due to J's low altitude. Tracking the Galilean moons is always rewarding.
