The counter weight that comes with the drive is ridiculously heavy for the 80ED setup. Does anyone know where I can find some lighter counter weight for the drive?
Orion sells a 7.5 pound weight.

Hi All, How much weight can this mount handle? It couldn't take my 10" LX-50 OTA could it? If not do you think the LXD75 could? Thanks,

I've done it with LXD55 on a beefier tripod and it worked well enough for visual use. Settle down was advanced to maybe 5 seconds or so.

John, So you think the LXD75 should/will do better then that. I was hoping to use it for photography as well as visual.

The LXD75 may do a bit better, but I wouldn't count on it being a quantum leap better, especially over a tuned LXD55.
It's still basically the same mount with a couple improvements.

Hi All, Greg/John thanks for the info. To get a little off topic what mount would you guys recommend for a 10" Meade OTA for visual & photgraphic use? With GOTO.

The problem is that the next step up would be a GM-8 with Gemini for about the price of a CGE ($2500). Either of those would be great, of course.
A well-tuned EQ-6 (Atlas) with a good Autostar conversion would be less expansive and perhaps good enough; it could certainly handle the weight.

Well, let's define photography. For webcam planet shots, which is what the F/10 SCT is best at, sure - the LXD55/75 would probably do fine. For long exposures at F/10 you're gonna need a much more serious mount.

Few days ago I finally had a very good observing session with the refurb mount. But still it had some issues: the right ascension was very noisy ("chattering"), and showing a big difference in response between the two directions, especially at low slew speeds. Today I opened the the motor box up to take a look. The encoder wheel, while still not bent (not much longer!), was rubbing against the side opposite to where the shaft comes from. It was easy to fix by loosening the set screw and moving the wheel back on the shaft. It rotates much better now I decided also to check the worm gear.
Two of the allen screws (including the central one that adjust the tension in the worm gear) were completely loose!
At times I think that Quality Control in these mounts is to let a worker tighten ad loosen screws at random...
I am frankly amazed it worked at all.
Let's see if this adjustment make the go-to more reliable. Marco
