BB, are you talking Cherry Springs or Spruce Knob or something? French Creek (I think the draw here is the comeraderie and not really dark skies) or DS2 (pretty good - almost 6.5 overhead)??

Here's one for all those "suffering" with your low teens and single digit humidity numbers:

We have 110 in the shade right now (Sunday afternoon) with high of 117 predicted by July 4th. The only relief will be the expected monsoons come July - which means scope time goes out the window.

Norhtern Michigan's got it all right now... clear, cool, and low humidity with a bright yellow sunset. Problem is, when the seeing is good, then typically the transparency is bad, or vice versa. Occasionally, they overlap! When they don't, we either look at DSOs or planets.

At the drop of a hat, probably French Creek. Don't know where DS2 is...as far as Cherry Springs or Spruce Knob, that'd take a little planning...not exactly something you can do on the quick.

French Creek Eh? Depending on the lead time involved I might be able to do that on occasion but not on a moments notice. It's not so much SWMBO, but keeping my slave-driving boss happy. I could only do Friday or Saturday nights though since my job gets me into bed by 10:00pm.

Have you considered that park that's off of route 100 on the PA turnpike? I forget the name of it, but used to fish there and the skies were pretty dark. Of course that's a relative measure since I lived in the middle of Philly at the time.

I am off work from tomorrow night until Monday so if the weather is good...

Keep me in mind.

BTW - have you considered Beleplain state park in southern NJ? According to mapquest its about the same drive time for you as French Creek (90 minutes or so from Newark). It's also in a yellow zone. Depending on the day of the week, traffic MIGHT be better getting to S. Jersey - Rt 55 can be empty early and late.

If you don't mind the heat tomorrow at 118 and the 4th at 121, nights mostly clear in the high 80's. So pack up bear the discomfort till nightfall which is still blazing hot. I'll wait or head to higher ground. If in the area bring the sunscreen.

Yeah, it's only Friday or Sat nites for me too. I'm not exactly aware of a park near PA 100 and the pike, but it's built up a lot now. New houses, new businesses. Probably not as good as it used to be. I'd consider NJ. Never been over that way...but there's that toll bridge. If the weather looks like it's gonna hold through the weekend, I might be able to take off for a while. PM me.

Oh, come to think of it, I'm having LASIK done on Friday afternoon...so maybe I'll take a raincheck...hopefully, not a permanent one.

Will do. I checked the weather and it's supposed to be bad at least until Thursday afternoon. I'll check the weekend report in a day or two.

Good luck with the LASIK. I've heard that it takes a few days for everything to get back to normal (swelling I suppose but I'm not a doctor - or even play one on TV) so an eye rest is probably a good idea.
