Hi Smitty, Hi Arm,

Excellent individual set-ups, you two !

Not sure though, that I'm personally ready for iPad technology yet, Arm.

(Just between you and me and the gatepost, ......... I don't understand what it does) !

Smitty: Beware the dreaded cord wrap !

Best regards guys,
Tel

Hi Matt, Hi Armond,

Really good set ups you two. It's great to see 8se's up and ready to go.

Armond, please lets have a report on the forum as to how how your getting on with Skywire and the ipad. I'm thinking of doing the same with my ipod touch.

Matt, re Tels warning, you do have one or two cables there don't you.

Regards. Peter.

I know it looks like a cord nightmare, but the dew heater strips ( one on the OTA and one on the diagonal) are taped together by the forkarm, then tapped together at regular intervals all the way to the controller. That was the 1st night I had it out after i got the heater strips and taped them the next day. Also, the AC adapter sits on the EP holder so the cord going to the power tank is straight down, and from the adapter to the forkarm is reasonably long. Plus i make sure to turn off cordwrap. Hahaha. But after that night, I also got my "wing thing" installed as well. I LOVE that accessory!!
Thanks for the compliments as well Peter and Tel!!

- Matt

Thats a great photo Jeffyen. The 8se looks good silhouetted.

Am I right in thinking you stand at the scope when observing?.

If so, you would be much better getting an adjustable stool/seat of some kind. The scope could then be lowered giving you more stability and a lot more comfort.

Just a thought Jeffyen.

Regards. Peter.

Yes Peter9, I don't have one of those 'adjustable tall chairs'! Will try to find one..

Hi Jeffyen,
You will see so much more from the sitting position, ask Bob (Griffiths) . It's well worth getting one.

There's mine to give you some idea of the type to look for.

Regards. Peter.

Good advice Peter, an adjustable chair is an excellent investment.

Hi folks, I've been wanting to do tis for a while but was waiting for the right deal on the right mount. I finally scored on the other day and I must say it gives the my Nexstar 8SE a whole nother look. It actually looks like something serious, rather beefy, than the lightweight it was.
Man this tripod makes this set up rock solid. I'd highly recommend it for those who wish to upgrade their existing setup.

Certainly looks very solid Brandon. Also, a nice looking set up all round.

Is that the CPC tripod?. Edit (just seen your post on the Nexstar forum re the mount. Question answered)

Regards. Peter.

Well, its still a NexStar OTA. And I will continue to use the 8SE mount for visual observing and travelling, but my latest investment for AP work is now under the OTA. The CGEM arrived yesterday and after a slight scare in that the RA would not move more than a few degrees, but a quick adjustment of the worm gear clearance solved the problem. So far so good. Tomorrow night is supposed to be clear, so will haul it out and give it a spin.

Nice, doug! I love the match between the orange OTA and orange highlights on the mount. Looks like it was made for it! I went with an iOptron mount, but one thing that was tugging me towards the CGEM when I was making my decision was the styling. Just my opinion, but the CGEM is one sharp looking mount!

Thanks Dan. I also considered the iOptron - which is probably a more accurate mount, but I wanted to stick with the Celestron hand controller - what I was familiar with and easier to go back and forth between this mount and the SE mount. The matching orange is an unexpected bonus. Maybe my subconscious considered it, but my waking conscious had not. But now I like it!

Its been blue sky clear all day - but high clouds have moved in over the last hour and its not looking good for tonight. Curse of the new gear.
