Very nice pictures and review Dietmar. The camera QHY8 is almost the same like M25C (the same CCD chip), but prices are very different.

Hi Dietmar, the cam uses the ICX453AK chip with progressive readout and not the 413. I hope I can afford one some day, until then my SXV-H9C does a good job.

Tom, as already shown - on the weblink of sx - the chip is identified to be the 413...?

...that's a bit weird...the handbook is called "h9c handbook" and contains info about m25c - on sude1 413 ... on page 30 453...(-:
so what.

My friend inform me, QHY8 has progressive mode (ICX453AQ) and SXV M25C has progressive mode too.

Hi all, this has been debated on the SXV-OSC group and to quoute Terry (hope he dont mind):

"It is the 453. The 413 was used in the very first cameras, but we changed to the 453 to get the progressive readout feature. It was never updated on the web site, as it didn't seem to be an important fact at the time - the chip is essentially the same apart from the readout registers.
Regards,
Terry"

There is no way for us, the consumer, to know how many cameras are out there with the "old" chip, if any.
So, if you are in the marked for a used M25C you may not get one with the latest chip.

Diets,

A very nice writeup of the M25C. The examples really show the potential of this camera...especially in the hands of a pro.

Yeah! Finally, the actual "Nikon custom" ICX413AQ-like CCD part number is known. It's ICX453AQ. Few know the subtle differences on the Nikon chip, but don't know the part number. Some used 413-like, some got confused then called it 413. But now we should use the official part number: ICX453AQ. Google "ICX453AQ" will find some information.

413 is an interline interlaced-frame readout mode CCD, while 453 is an interline progressive mode CCD. These two have quite a different internal interline buffer structure. The latter can do electronic shutter which is a very important feature for DSLR (high speed shutter and fast X-Sync) and for AstroCCD (no more interlace artifact, e.g., as seen in DSI family).

Clear Skies!
