I've been heavily into scale modeling for a long time as well as astronomy and several years ago I decided to combine the two hobbies. The results are in the photos below. I added the last to give an idea of the scale.

Both scopes have actual mirrors in them and move in both R.A. and Dec. There's a tiny removable eyepiece in the accessory tray of the SCT.

That is beautiful! What materials do you use? How do you cut such tiny mirrors?
... very impressive.

Thank you, all. The mirrors are magnifying dental mirrors removed from the handles. As for materials, I'll use whatever I can get my hands on. Mostly, they're made from stock sheet plastic or plastic rod or tubing with assorted spare parts from model kits and leftover plastic stuff, like a cut-down pill bottle for the SCT tube. You can see more of my non-telescope related stuff in my online portfolio.

Both scopes do move in R.A and Dec. and there's even a spare eyepiece in the accessory tray of the SCT. That's about the extent of it, though.

I like the Gemini Capsule you did from model, and from scratch the Newtonian is incredible, which was your favorite to build? BTW i think the Hubble would be a nice addition if its not in model form, with your proven talent i am sure you can scratch build it.

Thanks for the kind words. Picking my favorite build is a tough one. It was either the Voyager Spacecraft which was mostly from a kit with a few scratch-built parts or the Starship Enterprise which was a heavily reworked version of the classic kit.

The floating time capsule Voyager, nice job you must have patience and a steady hand. I have neither. Do you have anything in the works?

I have a "Dewey" drone from Silent Running that's 99% finished and a 1966 Batmobile that I just started that I'm converting from a Lincoln Futura kit. That's not to mention several kits on the shelf that haven't yet been started.

Here's one that didn't make it into the portfolio because it was just "slapped together." This is the Odyssey Compact I recently sold, complete with rack & pinion focuser and Telrad. Just to give you an idea of the scale, the tube is from a roll of teepee and the Telrad is an inch long.

You must post pictures, both will be sure to bring back memories. I forgot about Silent Running, what a great movie, now i will have to see if my local library has it in stock. Do you have a picture of 99% Dewey?

I just need to finish up the arm and scratch-build the claw which will be holding a poker hand. Then I finish by painting the "01" on the front and "1" on the back.

I love it! You did a great job with the patina(or should i say weathering) plus the knobs and headlamp very realistic work WOW!. I am sorry not to respond earlier but i had an accident Tuesday. The Earth ran into my shoulder and that little ball thingy thats in your shoulder snapped off the Humerus bone(i don't think its all that humorous ). I am a little doped up on pain meds so excuse my English. Looks like i will have some free time on my hands for the next few weeks i would pick up a model but i was never too creative besides it would be very frustrating with only one hand. But again Dewey looks fantastic!
