Jupiter 09-22-07 (DBK 2nd light, better seeing)
      #1857810 - 09/22/07 12:44 AM Attachment (90 downloads)

Hi guys. Based on the laptop screen image during capture and visual observation though the eyepiece I still have to call the seeing conditions poor - average. I'm happy with the result based on that. I knew seeing was better than the first session, so the result would be better, but I didn't expect quite this much improvement. I'm going to use this thread to post the results of different settings with my new camera and processing methods. All images were taken 09-22-07 0115 -0130 UT, 8in SCT 2x barlow

This was shot at 30fps in UYVY. K3ccd to sort/stack files (ended up with 552 frames stacked) and create 3 FIT files stacked in Registax. Very light processing done in wavelets 1 and 2 with filter on Gaussian and scheme Dyadic. Brought blue down two, green one and didn't touch red. Adjust the contrast in PSP 8. Gamma, Brightness and Hue left untouched. Like I said, very little over all processing. Image is at 100% scale

Same sequence, same processing, but 1104 frames stacked, which is a number I have never been able to stack before with Jupiter. Opinions compared to the first? I think I prefer the smaller stack. You can see theh most difference in the dark cloud belt at top. Anyone feel free to play with my images.

Joel,

Looking great! I was tempted to adjust your color balance, but I only made it too blue, so I left it alone. It's always hard to play around with 8bit JPG, but I had a crack with only some Lucy-Richardson Deconvolution in AstraImage. Here's my settings on the biggerstack:
Curve 1.9, Iterations 3

This is from a second sequence, 5 minutes later, but at 15fps. 1000 frames stacked, same processing. I'm not seeing too much of a difference at this point between the 15/30 fps. But I've been staring at these for awhile now. Any opinions on the best result so far?

Mike, that certainly brought out more detail in the polar regions I didn't know was there.

This is the final version of the 0115 sequence. A bit more processing and adjusting. I'm currently doing one more sequence, but it looks like the 30fps 552 frame stack is the one I'd prefer. Still hard to tell though because I did hit some real bad patches of air more in some sequences than others. The lower stack number producing the better quality would make sense based on seeing. Opinions and suggestions on ways of improving always appreciated.

Thanks Mark, I answer to both, but prefer Joel. I'm doing a quick processing of a Mars avi right now (I shot a total of 12 gig from 2:30 am - 4:00 am. I'm really hoping I have a result with Mars worth posting for once so far this apparition. Hopefully the DBK will keep on surprising me.

Joel, you are catching some good detail there! Jupiter is not an easy target at these latitudes.
