If the Off axis unsharpness is the same on both sides of the Binoculars it is most likely due to the optical design.

If it is more predominant on one side there can be 3 causes.

1. Incorrect spacing of Objective elements.
2. Matching of elements being on the opposite limits of the Manufactures Tolorances.
3. Bad Colimation of the Objective lenses (not to be confused with Prism collimation)

Points 1 and 2 usualy will be accompanied by unsharpness on axis. Point 3 can show itself though the star images getting slightly better towards the edge in one particular direction.

It sounds to me like you are simply not satisfied with the field flatness on both halves of the Binoculars. That is somthing to do with the design of the Objective lenses and the Eyepieces. You can probably try anouther pair and be equaly unsatisfied, or take the plunge, purchase the Fujinon's and be happy (Thats what I did)

I hope that helps,
Matt
