It seems to be a nice piece of optics.
As an amateur astronomer that likes to take pictures rather then observing with an eyepiece, I would like to see now a test oriented to astrophotography.

Here is the missing star-test video of GPU 140/1200mm which was quoted in my review (Vega, xvid CODEC, B&W, playback is accelerated by 3-times):

If you need, please find the xvid codec here:

Hopefully it will work...

Nice review, Attila!

I'm curious, how long did the scope take to cool down and produce an acceptable star test?

Thanks,
Mark

I live in Hungary so our climatic conditions can be nearly the same as in the northern part of the US. It means there were no remarkable temperature differences between our living room and the backyard during this fall.
Additionally, my GPU is stored within my backyard observatory so, generally, the lens is on ambient (working) temperature in normal cases. Practically, I cannot answer your question at the moment; my OTA is "too new".
The star-test attached above was recorded in thermal equilibrium.

But, winter is coming if I am right (... at the same time, the global warm up can chime in... ), and am willing to test this type of behaviour of GPU lens as well (moving it from within into the cold observatory a couple of times) and am willing to report the result here.

Attila

Cool. Many times people make claims about how cool down is no problem but you have video proof! What would really be interesting is if other people, perhaps with air-spaced triplets and doublets did the same thing: recorded the temperature differences, time to cooldown and documented it a video. Perhaps with enough data, we could definitely show which scopes cool down faster and by how much.
