Interesting to read about this very rare APO from GPU. The only other 5" f/7 oil-spaced APO is the Stellarvue SV5, which also is highly regarded. Perhaps one day someone will be fortunate enough to try a side-by-side comparo of those two scopes. I bet they'd rate very closely.

Clive -I think the Tec 140 would also fit this case???
It's an interesting company profile. A few more write ups and a comparison would go a long way towards this companies credibility. I would certainly be interested, especially with the pricing on the 160 model.
Maybe we could persuade them to send a demo unit to Tom for evaluation? This would cut to the chase and introduce them to the North American market quickly. TOM - are you listening???

I have ordered a GPU APO (140/1200mm) oil-spaced triplet lens from Mr Gyulai as well and it is ready now. I need some time to make a tube (with MoonLite focuser I think); it will hopefully be ready up to the end of July or in August in worst case.
So I am going to send a detailed review about this APO in September at the latest. Unfortunately, I did not have any chance to test an AP, Tak, TMB or similar so that review will not be able to be a competitive seance but maybe more than nothing...

I really hope this works out well for you. The more reviews the better, especially if you get a chance to compare to other scopes. I'm sure you will want to do this as well, for your own information.
We look forward to your review. Nice to have a new player in the larger size APO's.

Its price was EUR 3390 + 20% VAT. (Obviously, I have paid in HUF since both of us live in Hungary; so it was 1 million HUF.) This is just the lens itself within its lens-mount (w/o tube, focuser, etc.). It is a real bargain for this money. I could test a previous (but a little bit smaller) version of GPU lenses before I ordered this one, so I am almost sure this bigger one will also be a perfect glass.
But anyhow, I am willing to send a review before the end of this summer as promised.

I have sent my review about my 140/1200mm GPU APO to the editor of CN (a star test video recording is included) as promised. (Sorry for some delay...)
It will hopefully be uploaded shortly, but not in this forum topic (because of higher diameter-range), I think.

Say, that was a great review ! We need more top-notched 5-inch APO like this in the marketplace !
One question though: how much does the OTA (sans diagonal) weigh? Also, I hope you'll update the review when the planets return .
Thanks,

In the above review, you gave the comment "my Mak-Newt System had serious troubles built in with thermal cool down performance. " May I ask how you stored (temperature differential from inside to outside) and cooled the optic before you cut holes in the tube? As the happy owner of the 10" version of the Intes Micro Mak Newt, I agree that there are thermal considerations. However, I have learned to deal with this consideration to the point that it is no longer an "issue".
