My First Lunar Photos new
      #1945538 - 10/29/07 11:23 AM Attachment (33 downloads)

Mama and I were looking at the full moon on Thursday (October 25th) and I told her I should try some afocal shots through the eyepiece like Glassthrower did recently. I didn't have a spare tripod handy so just held the camera (Nikon Coolpix 3100) to the eyepiece until it looked right and pressed the button! Took several shots and they are all about the same. The camera was set on normal picture quality, and I did use the "timer" to help with my finger shake! Oh and I laid a 1.25" moon filter on the eyepiece to cut down on brightness! The binocs were APM 100mm (45 deg)with 20 X eyepieces!

Wow, Ron-
Coolpix!!!
I never fail to find it fascinating how one can just stick a camera up to an eyepiece and come up with a picture like this! Makes me want to give it a shot (no pun intended!).

Thanks Wes!
I had never tried it with binocs before - thought why not - it's only the moon and it's big!
