i just ordered an Orion XT8i and thought why not borrow my binoculars to view with until my scope comes in. i was very surprised at what i could see and how much i enjoyed using the binoculars though i am not sure what kind of quality they are. They are Bausch & Lomb Legacy 8x40s that worked ok. I think i would enjoy a pair that had a larger FOV but i don't have much experience looking through binos. i really don't want to spend a lot of money so i'll put a flexible limit of $60 on it. any ideas or recommendations on brands would be great. thanks

The Nikon Action EX come often recommended on this forum. In 8x40 size they have an 8.2 degree field of view, almost 2 degrees more than the current Buschnell Legacy 8x42 (not sure these are what you have).
To be honest, I'm not sure that for your use of accompanying a scope, your current binoculars are really a limitation that cannot be overcome by getting used to them for a while.

i definitely appreciate the recommendation and will check out the Nikon line, but i guess i should have put in my post that i am not unhappy with the ones i am using, its just that i borrowed them and have to give them back as my parents do use them often. so now i want to buy my own and if i am going to buy some then i would like to find the right ones for me. thanks again

Between 50 - 100 dollars there is a great deal of binos to choose from.
Brands like Celestron, Alpen, Bushnell, Tasco and so on offer a huge variety of binoculars in such range of price.
However, I'd suggest Oberwerk.
They cost little more than 100 $ but I think they are worth.
The one that I've just purchased works really fine.
It is light and the optic is excellent.

Hi, I just ordered a pair of Zhumell 20x80's for a closeout price of $69.00 with free second day air shipping. Retail on them is $199.00 I do not know if you want anything that large but for the price you cannot beat it.

Well those would not satisify the request, a larger field of view than the 8x40s.
In this case recommendations should be small wide fields, such as a wide 8x40/42 or a very wide 7x35.
I've tested more than 20 binoculars smaller than 10x and very few have 8° or wider fov.
Oberwerk Mariner 8x40
Nikon Action Extreme 8x40
Nikon Action VII 8x40
Minolta Activa 7x35
Only one of those is in your price range, the Nikon Action VII 8x40, and although it's not bad, I wouldn't recommend it.

Bushnell H20 Porro 8 x 42 have 8.2 degree TFOV.
Should be available in the US for below the $60 threshold .
They are not THAT bad ! :-)

i am actually really glad that somebody mention the 20x80 Zhumells because i saw those and thought " hey what a price" even though i knew i wasn't looking for more magnification. i will admit that i am getting used to the 8x40s that i have available and am considering 10x50 though i want to try them first. it just seems like they are a common size that most people use and enjoy. since i am pretty new i am still kinda guessing so all the advice and comments are appreciated immensely. so any experience or suggestions are welcome and well appreciated. thanks
