Chair for Binocs
      #1953991 - 11/01/07 05:24 PM Attachment (39 downloads)

I just got back from a second hand store and found a chair for $2.99. It has a back rest that moves so that viewing with binoculars will be a treat, especially with my parallelogram mount. I won't have to get up and move now when I want to change positions....all I will have to do is move the chair on the wheels with my feet and I'm looking at another part of the sky!!!
The date on the chair underneath is Oct 13 1977.
Here's what I can do if I just want to grab the binocs and have a quick view.

Well that's really cool, but be careful. If you fall to the ground if the chair back breaks, you could be seriously hurt.

I was thinking about that. I'm a pretty small guy at 5 feet tall and don't weigh all that much, but thanks for the concern, I will double check to make sure the back rest is sturdy.

I have a power chair from the scooter store which is about a year old which I'm going to convert to a Binochair. it has joystick controller and a tall back reclining seat. I,m looking at a few different ideas for the mounting. There are 2 metal braces attached to the frame on both sides of the seat. I am going to start in about 3 weeks.

That's awesome Anthony!!! I have done a twice over of my chair and all of the metal parts, springs, etc are in excellent condition for being a 30 year old chair. I just pressed down hard on the backing and all seems well.
This chair will mainly be used in tandem with my P-Mount.

-- and not only that -- the binoculars could also become knocked out of any alignment they may previously have had ! :-)

    Markus,
can you believe all this time Ive had it in the garage and never put 2 & 2 together. It was my grandmothers and still works like new and runs off 12 volt gel cell so I can run my laptop on it for my astro software. The only thing holding me back is the money. I think this is gonna be an awesomely cool project !!!!

    Anthony,
That looks like a really cool project. Once you figure out a way to mount the binocs on there you can just sit in it, drive it out of your shed, and start stargazing with your binocs. Keep me posted with pics about this project, it looks like a mighty fine binocular chair.

here is a link to a better pic. Any Ideas??
I will make the mount independant of the seat, there are 2 steel accessory mounts coming out of the front and I will start from there.
